Graphical User Interface is the acronym for GUI. An operating system that provides an interface composed of graphics and icons is called a GUI OS. GUI OS is really simple to use and utilize because users do not need to be informed of commands to execute any function. Examples of GUI operating systems cover Windows, macOS, Ubuntu, etc.
Operating systems that plan operations for the optimal usage of resources are considered time-sharing operating systems. Operating systems utilize time-sharing, or multitasking, while multiple users located at various terminals need processor time to complete their tasks. Some scheduling techniques, such as round-robin scheduling and shortest next scheduling function, are utilized by OS time-sharing.
An operating system that guarantees that live events or data are handled and the results are transmitted within a given time frame is considered an real-time OS. It may be a single task or multitasking.
An operating system that handles several computers but provides a single computer interface to the consumer is called a distributed OS. Such kinds of Software is needed when a single computer can not fulfill computational requirements, and more systems need to be used. User interaction is restricted to a single system; it is the OS which distributes work to multiple systems and then introduces the consolidated output as if one computer has been operating on the problem at hand.
Computers originally had no operating systems. Each program required complete hardware requirements to operate correctly because the programs themselves had to do the cpu , memory, and system management. Nevertheless, operating systems became essential as advanced equipment and more complicated application programs evolved.
